Aoashi Anime Gets New PV Revealing Staff, Cast, April 2022 Premiere Date

The official website for the TV anime adaptation of Yuugo Kobayashi’s Aoashi manga revealed the anime’s first promotional video, visual, staff, cast, and April 2022 premiere date.

The anime’s staff includes Akira Sato (Release the Spyce) as director, Masahiro Yokotani (Tropical-Rouge! Precure) as series script supervisor,
Kenichi Takeshita (Yu‑Gi‑Oh!: Bonds Beyond Time director), Jun Soga (Pandora and Akubi director), and Kenji Iizuka as soccer supervisors.
Manabu Nakatake (Sket Dance), Toshie Kawamura (Precure Super Stars!), Asuka Yamaguchi (True Cooking Master Boy Season 2 assistant animation director), and Saki Hasegawa (True Cooking Master Boy) as character designers, with Nakatake and Yamaguchi also serving as chief animation directors. 

Naho Seike (Case file n°221 : Kabukicho co-prop designer and animation director), Yukiko Watabe (Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop animation director), Miho Daidouji (True Cooking Master Boy prop designer), and Eisuke Shirai (Moriarty the Patriot key animation) are credited as sub-character designers, with Masaru Yokoyama (Farewell, My Dear Cramer) as music composer, Tsukasa Kakizakai (Fena: Pirate Princess) and Yusuke Takeda (Fena: Pirate Princess) as art directors, Emiko Ueno (You’re Being Summoned, Azazel) as color key artist, Arisa Ito (BEM: BECOME HUMAN key animation) and Miori Tsusaka (B: The Beginning Succession) as prop designers, Maiko Imazeki (I’m glad I could keep running) as director of photography, Yoshinori Murakami (DEEMO Memorial Keys) as editor, and Shouji Hata (Baki-Dou) as sound director.

Shiguma Morimoto (Noblesse 3D director) is in charge of the 3D animation, Akiko Hamanaka (Ascendance of a Bookworm) is credited for 2D works, while Kazushige Kanehira (Guilty Crown) and Osamu Ii (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal) are credited for art designs. The animation production will be from Production I.G.

The anime’s cast includes Kouki Osuzu as Ashito Aoi, Tatsumaru Tachibana as Eisaku Otomo, Seiichiro Yamashita as Souichirou Tachibana, Taku Yashiro as Keiji Togashi, Shun Horie as Kanpei Kuroda, Wataru Kato as Jun Marchis Asari, Junya Enoki as Yuuma Motoki, Kentaro Kumagai as Ryuichi Takeshima, Chikahiro Kobayashi as Tatsuya Fukuda, and Maki Kawase as Hana Ichijo.

The Aoashi manga is based on an original story concept by Naohiko Ueno. It launched in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine in January 2015, and its 25th volume was published in August 2021.

The anime’s website describes the story as:

Ashito Aoi, a junior high school student living in Ehime Prefecture, is the ace of a weak soccer team. On the day he loses his last junior high school tournament, he is running on the beach to vent his frustration. Then he meets a man who was watching the game. That man, Tatsuya Fukuda, is the coach of the Youth Team, an organization that trains high school students at Tokyo City Esperion FC, one of the leading clubs in the J-League. Fukuda sees infinite potential in Ashito, who has a special talent despite his rough edges, and begins to talk about his own ambition. “I have ambitions, and with the club I’ve built, I’ll take on the world. It’s not a stepping stone to the world. My club is the world. Youth is responsible for all of that ambition.” Ashito accepts Fukuda’s invitation and decides to go to Tokyo to take the entrance exam (Selection)…
