Blue Period has received a second trailer, which previews the opening song “EVERBLUE” by Omoinotake.
The upcoming anime is set to premiere in Japan on October 2. Netflix will stream the show in other countries weekly from October 9.
Blue Period is based on the manga series by Tsubasa Yamaguchi. The manga began serialization in 2017 in Kodansha’s Gekkan Afternoon magazine and has 11 tankōbon volumes as of September 2021. The manga won the Manga Taishō Grand Prize in 2020.
Kodansha describes the story as:
Yatora is the perfect high school student, with good grades and lots of friends. It’s an effortless performance, and, ultimately…a dull one. But he wanders into the art room one day, and a lone painting captures his eye, awakening him to a kind of beauty he never knew. Compelled and consumed, he dives in headfirst — and he’s about to learn how savage and unforgiving art can be!
Blue Period’s staff includes Kōji Masunari (Magi director) as the chief director, Katsuya Asano as the director, Reiko Yoshida (Non Non Biyori Nonstop series composer) as the series composer and scriptwriter, and Tomoyuki Shimotani (If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It To The Budokan, I Would Die) as the character designer.
Other staff include Ken Nakamura (Josee, the Tiger and the Fish background artist) and Yūji Kaneko (SD Gundam World Heroes co-art director) as the art directors, Ritsuko Utagawa (Kiniro Mosaic: Thank You!!) as the color designer, Yasushi Hattori (Bermuda Triangle: Colorful Pastrale) as the photography director, Arimasa Ōmi (TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You) as the 3DCG director, and Ippei Inoue as the music composer. Naomasa Fukuda (Fairy Ranmaru) is credited with the special effects, while Seven Arcs is the animation production company.
Meanwhile, the cast includes Hiromu Mineta as Yatora Yaguchi, Yumiri Hanamori as Ryuji Ayukawa, Daiki Yamashita as Yotasuke Takahashi, Kengo Kawanishi as Haruka Hashida, and Yume Miyamoto as Maki Kuwana.
