Komi Can’t Communicate Will Stream on Netflix

Update: Netflix has uploaded a trailer for Komi Can’t Communicate, with the description listing a release date of October 21 and a weekly streaming schedule.

Original: The recent trailer for Komi Can’t Communicate revealed that the anime will stream “exclusively” on Netflix from October 7, the day after its October 6 premiere on TV TOKYO and several other channels in Japan. 

According to Anime News Network, the 42nd issue of this year’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine had announced that Netflix will stream Komi Can’t Communicate in more than 190 countries and territories, and that there will be eight language dubs and 31 languages subtitles.

Komi Can’t Communicate is based on the ongoing manga by Tomohito Oda, which began in 2016 and has 22 tankōbon volumes as of August 2021. The manga ranked eighth in the “Manga We Want to See Animated” rankings at AnimeJapan 2021 and was ranked first in the AnimeJapan 2020 version of the poll. 

Viz describes the manga as:

Timid Tadano is a total wallflower, and that’s just the way he likes it. But all that changes when he finds himself alone in a classroom on the first day of high school with the legendary Komi. He quickly realizes she isn’t aloof—she’s just super awkward. Now he’s made it his mission to help her on her quest to make 100 friends!

The anime’s staff includes Ayumu Watanabe (Children of the Sea director) as the chief director, Kazuki Kawagoe (Ikebukuro West Park episode director) as the director, Deko Akao (The Detective Is Already Dead) as the series composer, Atsuko Nakajima (Tokyo Ghoul:re character designer) as the character designer, Masaru Satō (The Millionaire Detective Balance: UNLIMITED) as the art director, Yuki Hayashi (The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent) as the color designer, Satoshi Namiki (The Aquatope on White Sand) as the photography director, and Yukari Hashimoto (Kakushigoto – Himegoto wa Nandesu Ka) as the music composer. OLM is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, Komi Can’t Communicate‘s cast includes Aoi Koga as Shouko Komi, Gakuto Kajiwara as Hitohito Tadano, Rie Murakawa as Najimi Osana, Rina Hidaka as Ren Yamai, Rumi Ōkubo as Omoharu Nakanaka, Yukiyo Fujii as Himiko Agari, Ami Maeshima as Makeru Yadano, Sarah Emi Bridcutt as Akako Onigashima, Kenji Akabane as Chiarai Shigeo, Yūga Satō as Taisei Sonoda, Junya Enoki as Shōsuke Komi, and Maaya Uchida as Hitomi Tadano.
