A clip from Misaki no Mayoiga has been released ahead of the movie’s August 27 release.
The clip sees the character Kiwa-san telling the story of the Mayoiga building, with the narrated events being portrayed in a notably stylistic manner that sets it apart from the movie’s usual look.
Misaki no Mayoiga is an adaptation of Sachiko Kashiwaba’s award-winning novel. It follows 17-year-old Yui, who ran away from home, and 8-year-old Hiyori, who lost her parents and voice. They meet a old lady called Kiwa-san, who lives in a mysterious traditional house on a cliff overlooking the sea called Mayoiga. One day, some yōkai called “Fushigitto” come to Kiwa-san to request help in investigating mysterious happenings in the town.
The staff includes Shinya Kawatsura (Sagrada Reset, Kokoro Connect) as director, Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!, Violet Evergarden) as scriptwriter, Hiroshi Shimizu (Seven Days War) as character designer and chief animation director, Yūki Hatakeyama as Aiko Mizuno (Cells at Work!) as color designer, Naotaka Watanabe (Planetarian) as photography director, and Yuri Miyauchi as music composer. Kamogawa is credited with the original character designs while Takumi Tanji is credited with the “Fushigitto” original designs. David Production is the animation production studio.
Meanwhile, the cast includes Mana Ashida as Yui, Sari Awano as Hiyori, and Shinobu Otake as Kiwa-san.
