The Deer King anime movie has released a new “collaboration” trailer that spotlights the theme song “One Reason” by milet. The film is set to release on September 10.

The Deer King is directed by Masashi Andō (Your Name co-character designer and co-animation director) and Masayuki Miyaji (Spirited Away co-assistant director), with Taku Kishimoto (Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro) as scriptwriter. Andō is also serving as character designer and chief animation director. Production I.G is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Shinichi Tsutsumi as protagonist Van, Ryoma Takeuchi as the doctor Hothar, and An as the warrior Sae.

The Deer King is based on the novels by Nahoko Uehashi. The movie was featured at Annecy Festival 2021. A teaser trailer was released in April.

Annecy describes the movie as:

Van, the former leader of a warrior corps who fight for their homeland, is captured and seized as a slave. One night, vicious mountain dogs attack, causing a mysterious plague. Van escapes the chaos, helping a young girl who he decides to raise. Meanwhile, a doctor seeks a cure for this disease.
