The Re:cycle of the Penguindrum movie that was announced in March will be a two-parter that will release in 2022. A logo for the movie was also released.

New scenes are set to be included in the movie, which Comic Natalie describes as a “reconstruction” of the 2011 TV series.

Meanwhile, the original Penguindrum series is being uploaded to YouTube weekly (no English subtitles) as part of the “Re:cycle of TVseries” plan. The episodes will be available for a limited time only.

Re:cycle of the Penguindrum was announced as one of the series’ 10th anniversary projects alongside a crowdfunding campaign. The movie will be directed by the series’ Kunihiko Ikuhara, with manga artist Lily Hoshino handling the character draft designs. Lapin Track is in charge of the animation production.

The original 24-episode series had Brain’s Base as its animation production studio. A manga adaptation was published from 2013 to 2017.

HiDive describes the series as:

Is destiny a matter of chance or a matter of choice? All Kanba and Shouma know is that to keep their terminally ill sister Himari alive they must find the mysterious Penguindrum.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
