A Place Further Than The Universe’s Director and Character Designer Reunite For New Original Movie

A new original anime film made by the staff of 2018’s A Place Further Than The Universe (YoriMoi for short) has been announced. Titled Goodbye, DonGlees, it is slated to release in 2022.

Goodbye, DonGlees sees the reunion of YoriMoi‘s Atsuko Ishizuka and Takahiro Yoshimatsu. Ishizuka is again serving as director for the new project while also taking on scriptwriter duties, while Yoshimatsu is again serving as character designer. Madhouse is in charge of the animation production.

Goodbye, DonGlees marks Ishizuka’s first original movie project. The story centers on a boy who arrives in Iceland at the end of an adventure that began during summer vacation.

A visual for the film depicts two boys happily leaning against each other, while a mysterious third character with an obscured face stands at a slight distance from them. The characters are in front of a waterfall, but the visual also features a red telephone box that stands in contrast to its surroundings.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
