Date A Live IV Announced For October, Teaser Visual Released

The Date A Live sci-fi rom-com series is getting a fourth season. Titled Date A Live IV, the new series will premiere in October this year with the previous cast members reprising their roles. A teaser visual was released.

Unlike the first three seasons, Date A Live IV will be directed by the Date A Bullet spin-off’s Jun Nakagawa. Other announced staff members include Fumihiko Shimo (Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki) as series composer, Naoto Nakamura (High School Fleet movie) as character designer, and Gou Sakabe (LBX Girls) as music composer. GEEKTOY is in charge of the animation production.

Date A Live IV will be the latest anime adaptation of the light novel series written by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako, which ended in 2020 with 22 volumes. The light novels have spawned the Date A Bullet spin-off light novel series, a manga adaptation, and video games as well.

Crunchyroll describes the first season as:

Ordinary high school boy Shido discovers a mysterious girl at ground zero of a recent spacequake. Shido learns, through his sister Kotori, that the girl is one of the Spirits: mystical creatures responsible for the spacequakes. Shido is recruited to help “seal” the sprits and end their threat to mankind. There’s just one catch: the only way to seal a spirit—is to make her fall in love with you.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
