Sci-Fi Military Anime 86 EIGHTY-SIX Gets April 10 Release Date, New Trailer, More Details

Upcoming military sci-fi action anime 86 EIGHTY-SIX has received a new trailer and key visual. An April 10 release date, along with additional staff and cast details, was also revealed. 

The newly announced staff includes Masanobu Nomura (BNA: Brand New Animal) and Yumi Horikoshi (Fafner the BEYOND Ep 6,7,8) as art directors, Nagisa Abe (Omoi, Omoware, Furi, Furare) as color designer, Masaharu Okazaki (Omoi, Omoware, Furi, Furare) as photography director, Hiroyuki Yoshida (22/7) as CG director, and Jin Kaketayama (Horimiya) as sound director. 

Meanwhile, the newly announced cast members include Seiichirou Yamashita as Raiden Shuga, Natsumi Fujiwara as Theoto Rikka, Saori Hayami as Anju Emma, Sayumi Suzushiro as Kurena Kukumila, Haruka Shiraishi as Kaie Tanya, Haruki Ishiya as Daiya Irma, Daiki Yamashita as Haruto Keats, Taishi Murata as Kujou Niko, Shinei Ueki as Rui Kino, Masamu Ono as Chise Ousen, Katsumi Fukuhara as Touma Soubi, Taito Ban as Touzan Sasha, Shizuka Ishigami as Rekka Rin, Yuka Nukui as Mikuri Kairou, Mayuko Kazama as Maina Yatomika, Riho Sugiyama as Henrietta Penrose, Satoshi Mikami as Jerome Karlstahl, and Taiten Kusonoki as Lev Aldrecht. 86 EIGHTY-SIX previously received a trailer and PV in December 2020. The core staff members and the voice actors for the lead characters were also announced at that time. A1 Pictures is in charge of the animation production.

86 EIGHTY-SIX is based on a light novel series written by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabi, with I-IV responsible for the mechanical designs. Yen Press describes the story as:

The Republic of San Magnolia has long been under attack from the neighboring Giadian Empire’s army of unmanned drones known as the Legion. After years of painstaking research, the Republic finally developed autonomous drones of their own, turning the one-sided struggle into a war without casualties-or at least, that’s what the government claims.
In truth, there is no such thing as a bloodless war. Beyond the fortified walls protecting the eighty-five Republic territories lies the “nonexistent” Eighty-Sixth Sector. The young men and women of this forsaken land are branded the Eighty-Six and, stripped of their humanity, pilot the “unmanned” weapons into battle…
