Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood Original Anime Gets First Trailer

Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood, an upcoming original anime, has received its first promotional video featuring the opening song “EXIST” by RAISE A SULLEN (who also performs the ending song “Embrace of light”). The anime is set to premiere on April 6.

The staff includes Susumo Kudou (Cinderella Nine) as director, Rika Nezu (Saint Young Men OVA) as series composer, Kano Komiyama as character designer, Jun Yamaguchi as production designer, Yukari Yasuda (WATATEN!: an Angel Flew Down to Me) as art director, Misako Akama (Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club) as color designer, Youhei Konishi (Dies irae) as photography director, and Michiru as music composer. BAKKEN RECORD is in charge of the animation production.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Suzuko Mimori (Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club) as Sawa Yukimura, Shouta Aoi (2.43Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team) as Makoto Tsukishiro, Raychell (D4DJ First Mix) as Elena Hanakaze, Ayasa Itou (BanG Dream!) as Asahi Nakamura, and Chikahiro Kobayashi (Beastars) as Jin Kuzuhara.

The anime is set in an alternate Japan where Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu still maintains power, the Meiji era has advanced into its 64th year, and Japan has an energy source that has caused the Edo period and science to mix. Behind the scenes, the Kuchinawa faction prepares to overthrow the government, with the Tokugawa government assigns the Nue organization to exterminate the Kuchinawa in response. Sawa Yukimura, whose parents were murdered when she was young, is a Nue executioner who is in search of a certain foe.

Update: Amended the last line of the synopsis, which originally and mistakenly stated stated that Sawa was an executioner targeting the Nue and their leader. The anime’s title, which the article incorrectly wrote as Joran: The Princess of Blood and Snow, has also been fixed.
