A new anime film by Mamoru Hosoda, titled BELLE, is scheduled for a Japanese release in Summer 2021.
Hosoda (MIRAI, The Boy and the Beast, Wolf Children, Summer Wars, and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) is credited as the film’s director, screenwriter, and original creator, with Studio Chizu in charge of animation production.The new story “follows a teenage girl who lives between modern-day Japan and a virtual world called “U.”“
Hosoda’s most recent work, Mirai, gained widespread acclaim as a nominee for Best Animated Feature Film at the 91st Academy Awards and for Best Motion Picture-Animated at the 76th Golden Globes.
