Tower of God Episode 12 – A Real Big Fish (Review)

Everything continues to build up to the test’s final moments in the Underwater Hunt.

Crunchyroll describes episode 12, Underwater Hunt (Part Two) as:

All manner of thoughts and intentions intersect at the chaotic final testing ground. While tossed about by a giant plot, the combatants boldly race across the battlefield. As the test reaches its climax, what resolve will Bam show to Rachel?

The animation this episode was top notch: Rak running, Bam fighting, and Paracule’s intensely shaded reactions. The running cuts with Rak and Paracule were especially entertaining. Anaak’s “HAAAA?” face also deserves a special mention. Even in a life or death situation, Tower of God knows how to relieve us with some comedy.

While the cliffhanger at the end of the previous episode might have cast some doubt on the strength of their relationship, it’s nice to see that Endorsi and Anaak are now friends despite the animosity they’ve shown each other up until now.

Fans of Yuri Jahad rejoice! We get to see just how powerful the Ranker Princess is, and just how confident she is with that power. The rest of her party is nothing to sneeze at either. Evan’s cool demeanor when confronting Han Sung Yu shows that he is more than just a punching bag.

Despite all the crazy action and convoluted plot, the episode ended in contemplative silence. The purpose of the test seems to be called into question. The point of the test was to let Rachel climb the tower because she was injured, but the events that transpire this week suggest another purpose.

As certain plot threads are wrapping up, Tower of God sprinkles in just enough information to get us primed for a potential season two. We get a glimpse of a character that bears a striking resemblance to Khun, and the Khun family appears to have quite a bit of power, considering how they appear to interfere with the test. We will see if these things develop next week or we’ll have to wait until next time.

Tower of God is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. The final episode is scheduled for next week.
