The official Twitter account for Cells at Work! CODE BLACK released its first animated trailer. Based on the manga written by Shigemitsu Harada, art by Issei Hatsuyoshiya, and original series by Akane Shimizu, the spinoff story dives into an unhealthy body with a darker tone compared to the main series.
The TV anime series is scheduled to premiere January 2021. Liden Films will be animating the series with Yamamoto Hideyo as the director, Hayashi Mori as the series composer, and Eiji Yasuhiko as the character designer.
Enoki Junya will be the voice of Red Blood Cell and Hikasa Yoko will be the voice of White Blood Cell (Neutrophils).
Kodansha Comic describes the spin-off series as:
In this new spinoff of the hit manga Cells at Work!, a newbie Red Blood Cell is one of 37 trillion working to keep this body running. But something’s wrong! Stress hormones keep yelling at him to go faster. The blood vessels are crusted over with cholesterol. Ulcers, fatty liver, trouble (ahem) downstairs … It’s hard for a cell to keep working when every day is a CODE BLACK!
