Anime Trending will be hosting the Decade Awards this coming September in celebration of our seventh anniversary. The idea floated among the staff before the 6th Anime Trending Awards when various anime media outlets held their own Decade Polls last December. The nominees of the Decade Awards will consist of the “Anime of the Year” winners from past Anime Trending Awards.
The nominees include:
Terror in Resonance (MAPPA) – ATA 2015 Anime of the Year
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU! (feel) – ATA 2016 Anime of the Year
Natsume’s Book of Friends (Shuka) – ATA 2017 Anime of the Year
Tsuki ga Kirei (feel) – ATA 2018 Anime of the Year
A Place Further than the Universe (MADHOUSE) – ATA 2019 Anime of the Year
Vinland Saga (WIT Studio) – ATA 2020 Anime of the Year
Since Anime Trending didn’t exist prior to September 2013, we will be holding run-off polls for the years 2010-2013 to complete the list of nominees. Here’s the schedule for the run-off polls:
2010 Anime | April 2020 |
2011 Anime | May 2020 |
2012 Anime | June 2020 |
2013 Anime | July 2020 |
Every month will have mini run-off polls corresponding to each season within the year (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) that will run for 4 days each. The Top 2 or 3 (depending on the number of entries in a season) from these mini run-off polls will then be pitted to the other nominees from other season during the remaining days of the month. For example, when the run-off polls for 2010 anime are held in April, the schedule will be as follows:
April 1 – 5, 2020 | Winter 2010 |
April 6 – 10, 2020 | Spring 2010 |
April 11 – 15, 2020 | Summer 2010 |
April 16 – 20, 2020 | Fall 2010 |
April 21 – 30, 2020 | Final Grand Run-off Polls |
The winner of the Grand Run-off Polls for April will then be the 2010 nominee for Anime of the Decade. Applies for the other year too.
The Final Polls for the Grand Run-off Poll Winners and the 6 other anime already nominated will be from August 1 to September 22, 2020.
Aside from awarding an Anime of the Decade, we will also give an award for Boy of the Decade and Girl of the Decade with the same qualifying format. The finalists will then be announced on 23 September 2020 — just in time for Anime Trending’s seventh anniversary.
