GKIDS’ Promare Surpasses $1 Million Box Office

GKIDS announced big box office success for Studio TRIGGER’s Promare.

New theater reports show that GKIDS’ Promare has earned an estimated $1,068,806 after only two weekends in theaters. The film premiered in select U.S. theaters on September 17th (English dubbed) and September 19th (English subbed) in partnership with Fathom Events, and opened 30 more screenings on the 20th. GKIDS and Fathom Events screened the film in Canadaian cinemas on September 22nd and 23rd through Cineplex Events.

This box office milestone marks Promare as the highest-grossing original anime title in 2019, and the second highest theatrical gross for GKIDS just behind Mary and the Witch’s Flower in 2018.

Promare is Studio TRIGGER’s first feature-length film, directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill). The film has been lauded as a spiritual successor to Imaishi’s previous works, using bold visuals to tell an action-packed story.


Thirty years have passed since the appearance of Burnish, a race of flame-wielding mutant beings who destroyed half of the world with fire. When a new group of aggressive mutants calling themselves “Mad Burnish” appears, the epic battle between Galo Thymos, a new member of the anti-Burnish rescue team “Burning Rescue,” and Lio Fotia, the leader of “Mad Burnish” begins. Featuring the voices of Billy Kametz, Johnny Yong Bosch, Crispin Freeman, and Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld. (111 minutes, rated PG-13).

The film is still screening at additional select theaters in the US.
