GKIDS announces its slate of upcoming theatrical releases, which includes:
PROMARE
Promare (2019) is a blistering action-adventure film from director Hiroyuki Imaishi (GURREN LAGANN, KILL la KILL) and the first feature-length film from studio TRIGGER (KILL la KILL, Little Witch Academia). In a world ravaged by flame-wielding mutants called the Burnish, Galo Thymos (Kenichi Matsuyama), a new member of the anti-Burnish rescue team, must battle the “Mad Burnish,” a group of aggressive mutants led by the devious Lio Fotia (Taichi Saotome).
Promare is in select theaters September 20.
WEATHERING WITH YOU
From director Makoto Shinkai and producer Genki Kawamura, the team behind worldwide smash hit Your Name., comes Weathering With You (2020). The film depicts a Tokyo plagued by non-stop rain, but this changes when high school freshman Hodaka (Kotaro Daigo), new to the city, meets Hina (Nana Mori), a girl with the power to stop the rain and clear the sky.
Weathering with You premieres in early 2020.
CHILDREN OF THE SEA
Children of the Sea (2019) is an upcoming adventure film from STUDIO4C (MFKZ, Batman: Gotham Knight, Tekkonkinkreet) and director Ayumu Watanabe, with a score from award-winning composer Joe Hisaishi of Studio Ghibli fame. Adapted from Daisuke Igarashi’s manga of the same name, Children of the Sea follows Ruka (Mana Ashida) and her friends Umi (Hiiro Ishibashi) and Sora (Seishū Uragami), two mysterious boys raised by dugongs, as they go on a journey to solve the worldwide disappearance of the oceans’ fish.

RIDE YOUR WAVE
Ride Your Wave (2019) is a meditation on grief by visionary director Masaaki Yuasa (Devilman Crybaby, Lu Over the Wall, The Night is Short, Walk On Girl). The film follows Hinako (Rina Kawaei), a surfer who, after the death of her lover Minato (Hinageshi Yôko), learns she can summon his presence in bodies of water.

GKIDS and Fathom Events announced Studio Ghibli Fest, in which the iconic films will be released in select theaters nationwide over the next few months. The remaining dates and films are listed below:
