Aniplex of America recently announced that free-to-play mobile game Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story will be launching on June 25 in North America in English.
A spin-off of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magical Girl franchise, the game will allow players to build their own team of Magical Girls and battle through three story types with over 30 Magical Girls to choose from.
Players can expect various experiences from the game’s story types. They can follow Iroha in her search for her sister Ui, or travel with Madoka herself through a separate timeline. They may also learn about each of the game’s unique Magical Girls by “battling through their own unique story”.
A pre-registration campaign is currently ongoing, with registration milestones resulting in yields of Magia Stones, an in-game currency. The main reward is the glasses version of Homura Akemi, one of the anime’s main characters, who requires 20,000 registrations to be unlocked.
Following the announcement of the game’s English version in April, the game has released videos for new characters such as Iroha Tamaki (Momo Asakura), Yachiyo Nanami (Sora Amamiya), and Felicia Mitsuki (Ayane Sakura). The most recent character to be introduced is Tsurono Yui (Shiina Natsukawa).
Aniplex of America describes the game’s premise:
Once they make that contract and their wish has been granted they become Magical Girls, beings duty-bound to battle Witches for the rest of their lives.
Strange things have started to happen in Kamihama City. Magical Girls gather there to continue their battles with Witches, led as if by some mysterious force.
‘Has Ui been erased from existence?’
Iroha Tamaki, a Magical Girl trying to figure out what happened to her sister.
‘If I can figure out what’s happening here, I might be able to save Madoka…’
Homura Akemi, a Magical Girl searching for a way to save her most precious friend.
Another hope is born when the Magical Girls of two cities cross paths.
Developed by f4samurai, the game features the involvement of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise’s creative team. Studio SHAFT is contributing to the opening animation and transformation animations.
Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story will be available on iOS and Android.
