Netflix announces “Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045” coming 2020

Netflix has announced a new Ghost in the Shell anime, which will release sometime in 2020.

Titled Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, the project will see Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki co-directing the series. Production studio will also be a collaboration between Production I.G and SOLA DIGITAL ARTS. Plot details are currently unknown, but the anime will feature the use of 3DCG for its animation and is again based on Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell manga.

“It is a next-generation animation film and the first “GHOST IN THE SHELL” made by double directors,” said Netflix in a press release.

This isn’t the first team-up between Kamiyama and Aramaki, as the two are also working together on Netflix’s upcoming Ultraman anime, set to release on April 1, 2019. In addition, both are directing the Blade Runner – Black Lotus anime series, a co-production between Adult Swim and Crunchyroll.

Kamiyama previously directed both seasons of the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series and its film sequel, Solid State Society, while Aramaki is the director of the Appleseed films.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
